On Sunday we had our second annual family trip to the Christmas tree farm to pick out our tree. Even though we will be in Maui for Christmas this year we still thought it was important (and fun!) to have a tree in our house (I think our house sitter will enjoy the tree too though!).
Last year Mckinley was only about 5 months old when we went tree hunting, so she was all bundled up and really had no idea what was going on. This year Mckinley is 17 months old and, while she still doesn't understand why we are out in this "forest" in search of the perfect tree, it is much more of a fun event for her. The only hiccup in the event is that Mckinley has a small irrational fear of large plants--this includes Christmas trees apparently! She refused to walk around the farm herself, held her arms in tightly to her side, and winced if she came too close to the branches of a tree. :) Who would have thought that trees could be that scary? It was only ok if mom or dad were holding her.
In the end we found our tree though (a bit small in my personal opinion)! We loaded it on top of the SUV and headed home to get all the decorations going. While Mckinley took her nap we put the tree up and got the lights on, but we waited to put any ornaments on until she was up. However, her little issue with trees inhibited her from actually wanting to touch the tree--which is kind of required to hang ornaments. She was VERY excited about the whole thing though (less any tree touching). Oooo and Ahhhs were heard all night!
Not moving from this place....
"I really want to get you dad, but I would have to walk there on my own."
Again, not moving from this spot.
Our tree!!!! (Notice Mckinley's hands in picture on left)
She loved these things!!
Oooooo!!!
First ornament...."mom, why don't you just hang it for me?"
More oooos and ahhhhs. "Why is this tree in my house?"
Putting the star on top of the tree!!!
