Happy Birthday Kev!

On Thursday (the 28th) it was Kevin's birthday! Mckinley and I had a really fun time getting ready for his big day. :) We went shopping for dinner (where we purchased an Elmo birthday balloon--which Mckinley was super excited about), baked a cake, colored in his card, wrapped a fake present, and then CELEBRATED!!

Happy Birthday Kevin (AKA Daddy!)

This was the fake present...his present is delayed in shipping world and won't get here until next week---oops!! I wrapped a fake present and left this note inside...Kev wasn't real excited about it! :)

Kev - I hope your birthday was everything you hoped for! Love you!

Kyan's 1 Month Old!

Happy 1 month birthday Kyan!!

Things I love about you at 1 month:

- The way you snuggle into my neck as I comfort you back to bed after a feeding in the middle of the night
- That you smiled at me for the FIRST time yesterday! :)
- That you are so calm and peaceful
- That even if you do get upset, you are SO easy to soothe

You still do not do that much at only one month, but each day you seem to be more and more alert. I'm so excited to see what this next month brings!

You can see he is holding up one finger for one month!

4 weeks!

Today Kyan is 4 weeks old. Not quite a month yet, but quickly approaching it. Time moves so fast with a new born and it already seems like he has changed so much.

This past week in particular it really feels like he is just fitting right into the family. Our little routine is starting to take shape, he had his first real bath, and Mckinley and him are starting to interact (well--he has no idea what a sister is and she is finally not bugging him at every possible moment is what I mean by "interact"). In other words, she loves him and he tolerates her. I am having so much fun getting to know this little person and watching my family grow...

Bad quality photo (via my phone), but a really sweet moment to capture!

Due Date

Today was my due date with Kyan. Since he has been born I have often thought as I look at him "I should still be pregnant with you!"--it is a really odd experience. As difficult of a situation as it was to be in the hospital for that period of time, I am so grateful that Kyan is here and healthy, as am I. And I have happily accepted the extra almost 4 weeks I have gotten with him.

We are so beyond excited and happy that Kyan is here and a part of our family. I feel so blessed to have a son and to get to experience motherhood of two little ones (even if it is ridiculously challenging!).

I thought it would be fun to take a few notes on what Kyan is up to on  his due date:

- He weighs roughly 9.4 lbs and is 22" (give or take a little due to my home measurements!)
- He still eats every 3 hours, but at night he will sometimes be really nice and go 3 1/2 :)
- He is very alert during the day and looks around taking in the crazy Hinton world
- He loves to snuggle and we love it too!
- He is easy going, cries pretty infrequently, and is extremely sweet natured

I still cannot believe how much our lives have changed. I don't really think it has truly sunk in that we are a family of four now. I can't wait to watch Mckinley and him become friends, but for now I am happy to take in the newborn stage (especially since so far he is WAY easier than Mckinley ever was!).

Here is the little guy on his actual due date:

The Parade!

This weekend we went down to Tacoma to go to the Daffodil Parade with Grandma Cheryl and Papa Steve. Mckinley had a BLAST! She absolutely loved it!! The Daffodil Parade is something that I remember from my own childhood, so it is fun now to take my own kids (also a little weird that I am at that point in my life).

At first Mckinley was not really sure what was going on, and I think she liked looking at the crowd more than the parade itself but she quickly caught on. She wouldn't wave at the floats and parade participants as they went by, but after they had passed she would say "bye-bye" (i.e. bye-bye horse, bye-bye girl, bye-bye moo (cow)). It was really fun for us to watch her enjoy it so much--she even sat through the freezing cold without a single complaint!

It was also really fun to get to see Papa Randy in the parade! Since he is pretty big time at the high school he coaches football at (ahh hem--state champs!) he gets to participate in the parade! :)

Unfortunately, the photographer of the day (Kevin!) wasn't real in to documenting the event. We did get some photos though.
