This year was an especially fun Christmas. Mckinley is at the age this year where she is starting to enjoy all things Christmas. Her first Christmas she was only 6 months old and her second 18 months. Neither of these years she really understood what Christmas really was. This year she finally started to understand-she at least got that it was about family and presents (of course!). In the weeks leading up to Christmas we of course got our tree and decorated the house, but we also watched Christmas movies, listened to Christmas music, read Christmas books, and looked at Christmas lights on houses. She got to a point that she would recognize Christmas songs and if she saw a snowman she would say--"mommy, is that Frosty the Snowman?". She also knows all about Santa now! She was still too shy to actually visit him this year, but we did wave at him and got a wave back! :)
Kyan was more like Mckinley on her first Christmas. He is a little older than she was, but he still has no idea what is going on. To him, it is only exciting because there are wrapped presents to play with and lights on our Christmas tree to try and eat! I'm excited for next year when he will be 21 months and will at least understand presents.
It was so much fun to watch Mckinley wake up and be told it was finally Christmas! She was so excited to go down stairs (telling everyone to "come on everybody!" the whole way) and get to open her presents. She was really patient and opened about half before we had homemade crepes (a Christmas tradition started last year). We then finished our marathon present opening session (mommy/daddy/grandmas/grandpas/santa were especially good to us this year). Kyan was just excited to crawl around and attempt to eat any new thing he found! :)
Memories like these are so special to me. I want Christmas (and every holiday for that matter) to be cherished by my kids. I have wonderful memories from my childhood, as does Kevin, and we want those experiences for our kids. Hopefully building the traditions we have started will do just that (a little spoiling along the way doesn't hurt either).
Here are some photos to highlight the day:

T'was the night before Christmas....
And finally, Christmas morning...
We hope that everyone had an amazing Christmas filled with family and love. Ours was wonderful and I can hardly wait until next year!
