Summer Trip to the Ocean #1

A couple weeks ago we were SO LUCKY and got to go spend four wonderful days with Kevin's family in Ocean Shores. Thanks to some amazing family friends (thank you Gregg family!) who lent their beautiful beach house to us, we were all able to stay under one roof. Kevin, the kids, and I met up with Kevin's parents Wednesday night and then his brother's family came in the next night. While things can certainly turn crazy in a second with kids aged 1, 2, (almost) 3, and 4, it was such a fun time! It was really exciting to watch the three older ones really play together. Up until now they have always played next to each other but not together. This weekend was full of games and make believe though. :) I see many years of fun times like these to come!

The trip did have many a challenging moment however, as both of our kids were sick with colds. Kyan got one the day before we left and Mckinley woke up at 3am our first night yelling "something's wrong with my nose!" So they were a little on the crabby/needy side to say the least! Even that couldn't spoil a fun weekend though. And it is ALWAYS awesome to get to spend four whole days together!

Thank you so much B&D for making this all happen, and thank you again Gregg family for so generously sharing your home with us-we'll take you up on that offer any time! :)

Here are the very few beach pictures I took...

By the title of this post you can tell this is our first beach trip of the summer. We have a different beach trip planned for later this summer...stay tuned!

Life Happens

So life happens. And that makes it difficult to blog. Really it is work that happens and then I do not seem to have one ounce of free time. Not any longer though! :) I finished work last Friday and I am officially on SUMMER VACAY! We are already getting ready for our first trip of the summer--more on that later. Obviously, much has happened since my last attempt at a blog post. Here is a quick run down:

*We celebrated Kevin's 29th birthday-last year until the big 3-0!

*The Hinton grandparents came into town and we had a great visit with them on Cinco de Mayo!

*We celebrated cousin Ashyln's 4th birthday (how are these kids getting so old?!).

*I had an AMAZING Mother's Day complete with breakfast and dinner out and an AMAZING new toy!

*I have been applying to jobs like crazy, but in all honesty, I am a little nervous about my chances! Subbing may be in my future.

*Kevin traveled for almost two weeks straight during the crazy end to my long-term sub position! It was hectic to say the least!

*And last, but certainly not least (and my personal favorite highlight of the last month!), Mckinley started swim lessons! Here will now begin the many pictures and videos I have taken! In my defense for two of her first three lessons Kevin was out of town and I was sending him all these while he was away.

Let me just start off by saying I was pretty sceptical after our first lesson when she literally screamed for the first 10 minutes of a 30 minute lesson! However, my quick thinking and awesome parenting skills came into play and I resorted to bribing her. Worked like a charm! 20 minutes later we had a pretty successful first lesson and were on our way to getting a new toy and candy! (lucky for us she picked out a toy that cost $3.99 and a bag of gummy bears!).

The next three lessons have gone SO well though--she LOVES every second of them! She has definitely inherited all the water loving traits of her father! I am so excited to continue a summer full of these lessons!

Ok, you get the point...it is so fun to watch her enjoy something so much!

I will end with a picture dump of all the random things we have been up to lately!

Catching Up

It has been an entire month since I last did a blog. That is seriously ridiculous! This working mom thing is tough--especially on the blog updates! We have been up to quite a bit lately, but instead of doing a bunch of different posts to catch everyone up, I am going to do one quick post with all the highlights. Hopefully this will erase all the stress of being so behind in posts and I can just start fresh...something tells me I may get behind again (at least until summer rolls around--by the way, I am t-minus 5 weeks until summer break! Woo Hoo!!!).

So we last left off at Kyan's birthday. Since then he has continued to seem so old! On his birthday he decided to just walk across the room, this was after about a week of taking five or so steps here and there. Within a week of his birthday though he was walking all over the place. He also learned right away to stand up on his own from the middle of the room--this is something that Mckinley took forever to do. Now he is a walking machine! This instantly gives him big kid credit. I remember so well a few months ago talking to Kevin and saying, "won't it be weird when we have two kids just walking around?". Yep, it is super weird. It means we do not have a baby anymore!

On to some things we have been up to....

Easter was a tone of fun this year! We dyed eggs for the first time--super fun! We made very yummy Bunny Bait to lure the Easter Bunny to our house! It worked too--apparently that bunny loves M&Ms and popcorn as much as our family does! The Saturday before Easter we did a community egg hunt with what seemed like 1,000 kids. Papa Randy and Grandma Leann joined us for that morning of fun! We even saw the Easter bunny in the parking lot of Starbucks (and then the adults saw him remove his head once he was in his car! Good thing Kinley missed that part!). Later that afternoon we went to my brother's for an early Easter dinner and another egg hunt. As usual, Mckinley had a blast with her cousins. Kyan slept most of the time, but woke up in time for dinner.

On Easter itself Mckinley got to do a scavenger hunt the Easter Bunny left in order to find her basket. She also did her third egg hunt! We spent the rest of the day opening and closing Easter eggs repeatedly! :) I love all of the holiday traditions that we are getting to start! Mckinley is at such a fun age for these things--and Kyan actually loves most of them too!

Unfortunately, I do not have any photos from our Easter day celebration, as I had left my camera at my brother's the night before. Boo!!

Another not-so-exciting thing of Easter was Mckinley hurting her foot--which she now tells anyone and everyone was caused by "mommy pushed me over"!!! The true story (really!!) is that we were getting ready to leave our house to go have a picnic for lunch, but Mckinley, as is seen VERY often in our house, was throwing a tantrum. I was sitting on the couch, she was standing if front of me flailing about. I was holding her hand, but as she continued to flail I said "fine, throw a tantrum" and let go. She fell to the ground from the continued flailing and rose from the ground unable to stand and/or walk on her left foot. We decided to give it a day as there was no swelling at all. She also could bend it and you could push on any part of her foot without any pain. This is where the story gets super weird. So the next day she could still not walk. We decided to take her to the doc. After an exam and xrays he says....I think she has a virus....in her HIP. What?!?! A virus in her hip?! That is too weird. Apparently it is really common in preschool age kiddos and her symptoms matched. He said if she got better in a few days it would confirm this is what she had, otherwise bring her back in. The next day she began to start to walk on it, and then it turned into just a limp when she walked. Now she is fine unless she somehow steps weird then she limps for a little bit. It is SUPER strange!! Unfortunately, she still tells everyone it is because mommy pushed her down! Great!

Ok, ok enough about Easter. I will move more quickly along thse next few updates! The weekend after Easter we went to the Daffodil Parade with my mom and my neice Kylee too! This is something that we did last year also! The kids had a ton of fun (until Kyan had enough with us ignoring the fact that he needed a nap)! The weather was perfect and it was a fun day to spend with family! Thanks mom for the great idea!! :)

Later that night we decided to act on something we had been debating for a while. We cut Kyan's hair! I nearly cried! I still am not sure how I feel about it. For the two days following, I couldn't look at pictures of him with his long hair without crying. I know that sounds super silly, but he just looks SO different now. It feels strange. We decided to cut it because it so easily got this crazy-bed-head quality to it, that we thought shorter hair might be easier to manage. I think we may go for something in between next.

Other than that, we have just been enjoying the sunshine that has been around lately! Lots of time in the yard and at the park! I am so excited for summer to get here! We have lots of fun plans lined up. I can't wait!

So this post obviously turned out to be HUGE, but hopefully now I can keep up with it a little better. That actually probably won't happen, but I can try!!
