So I have been noticing that lately I have only been posting about some significant "event". While capturing those moments is obviously a HUGE part of this blog, when I started writing the blog I also wanted to capture the little moments in our lives too. The things that crack us up or the things I don't ever want to forget--no matter how small they may seem now.
So keeping that thought in mind I just had to write about ketchup! Mckinley L.O.V.E.S ketchup! If she sees a bottle of ketchup we hear "oooooooo DAT pease"! (and it is just not simply asking, she is almost begging with a sense of desperation in her voice---pretty darn cute too though).
If she is having food that she has once dipped in the delicious substance she seems to know that something is missing unless we pull out the ketchup.
This leads me to the list of dippable items in Mckinley's mind:
- Fries
- Meat of any variety
- Peas (one at at time)
- Green beans
- French bread
- P,B & J's
Many of these are extremely gross...particularly the last two, but she eats it up saying "mmmmm" the whole time. You may be wondering why ketchup was even available with some of these items, but rest assured there was some part of the meal that ketchup would normally be applicable to. Mckinley just takes it upon herself to dip everything in it. Actually, she is also known for scooping it up with her fingers too. :) As hard as mom tries to tell her that ketchup is not a food on its own, it is a condiment.
On a ketchup side note: I also am loving ketchup these days. I do not crave it, but it tastes REALLY good when I do have it. Maybe Kyan will have a love of ketchup just like his big sis. Oh the weird things pregnancy does to a lady.
Now I promise more blogs on the significant things in life coming soon...it is Christmas just around the corner after all!!

O Christmas Tree!!
On Sunday we had our second annual family trip to the Christmas tree farm to pick out our tree. Even though we will be in Maui for Christmas this year we still thought it was important (and fun!) to have a tree in our house (I think our house sitter will enjoy the tree too though!).
Last year Mckinley was only about 5 months old when we went tree hunting, so she was all bundled up and really had no idea what was going on. This year Mckinley is 17 months old and, while she still doesn't understand why we are out in this "forest" in search of the perfect tree, it is much more of a fun event for her. The only hiccup in the event is that Mckinley has a small irrational fear of large plants--this includes Christmas trees apparently! She refused to walk around the farm herself, held her arms in tightly to her side, and winced if she came too close to the branches of a tree. :) Who would have thought that trees could be that scary? It was only ok if mom or dad were holding her.
In the end we found our tree though (a bit small in my personal opinion)! We loaded it on top of the SUV and headed home to get all the decorations going. While Mckinley took her nap we put the tree up and got the lights on, but we waited to put any ornaments on until she was up. However, her little issue with trees inhibited her from actually wanting to touch the tree--which is kind of required to hang ornaments. She was VERY excited about the whole thing though (less any tree touching). Oooo and Ahhhs were heard all night!
Not moving from this place....
"I really want to get you dad, but I would have to walk there on my own."
Again, not moving from this spot.
Our tree!!!! (Notice Mckinley's hands in picture on left)
She loved these things!!
Oooooo!!!
First ornament...."mom, why don't you just hang it for me?"
More oooos and ahhhhs. "Why is this tree in my house?"
Putting the star on top of the tree!!!

Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow!
So yesterday I thought that the snow was pretty awful when it took Kevin five hours to get home from work, but today is a different story. Kevin is working from home which is always great. Even though he is locked away downstairs it is still nice to have him home and to eat lunch together--also he snuck away for about thirty minutes to play in the snow with Mckinley this morning!
Since it started snowing yesterday Mckinely has been entranced by the pretty white flakes. We didn't go out in it yesterday because she has been battling a pretty bad runny nose, but today we bundled up and ventured out. And by bundled up I mean tights, socks, pants, long-sleeved shirt, hooded-sweatshirt, coat, vest, mittens and a hat. We didn't really anticipate much snow-play this year so Mckinley doesn't really have the proper snow attire. Oh well, she still had a blast. I had to bribe her with BBQ chips to come back inside! :)
At this point we were thinking those BBQ chips sounded pretty good....it was still a battle to get her in though. Hopefully the snow sticks around just a little bit longer so we can get some more play time in.
And a video too! (Don't mind the picture snapping in the background...I couln't miss a photo op!)

Bouncing Baby Boy!
Last week we had our big ultrasound and found out that this little babe is a boy! It was an extremely exciting day and we couldn't be happier. As I have said many times before, we would have loved to have another girl. Mckinley is amazing and sisters would have been fun to experience. At the same time however, Kevin and I both really wanted to be able to experience a boy too--and obviously Kevin is a little extra excited by this boy news! :) It just seems so unreal that we are actually having a boy. It is almost like it is our first child again because boys and girls are so different. It was funny because throughout this pregnancy I was hoping for a boy, but I felt so guilty for feeling that way. I honestly would have been happy with a second girl, but the thought that I could have had even an ounce of disappointment, no matter how short lived it would be, was really unnerving to me. I had a feeling this baby was a boy though (I also felt that way with Mckinley too though so apparently my "feelings" don't really mean much). Really all I had to go on was that this pregnancy has been really different than with Mckinley. No we know though--BOY!!
So on to other exciting news...this little baby has a name! We had debated back and forth since almost the moment we found out I was pregnant. With Mckinley we knew what her name would be the day we had the ultrasound. With this baby it took us until the night of the ultrasound to really nail down what name we wanted. So, without further ado, this little baby will be Kyan Dane Hinton. The name Kyan because we love it and do not know anyone named Kyan, and Dane because it is a combination of both grandpa's middle names (Dean and Wayne). Hopefully other people like the name as much as we do, but really I don't care...we like it! :)
Kyan has brought on blog issue though---what to do about this blog name. I do not know if I really even thought about this issue when I originally named it, but it does now seem to present a problem. So sometime soon I will have to address this issue...stay tuned I guess!

Also, here is a short video that I took at the ultrasound with my phone. You aren't suppose to bring in cameras, but when the tech was out of the room I stole this anyways! The video is a little weird since it is looking face on at the baby. It is also pretty cool though because you can watch him opening and closing his mouth--you can even see his tongue!

Halloween!!!
This Halloween was so much fun. Mckinley (while she still doesn't really get what the heck is going on) seemed to enjoy herself. She was also able to actually go trick or treating---well by "actually going" meant that she either slowly walked or was carried to a doorstep, stood next to her cousin, looked around at everyone thinking they were crazy, was forced to hold out her precious basket, then immediately removed whatever item was placed in her basket examined it and then handed it to mom. So yeah, I think she liked it! It was obvious however that to her the best part was being able to walk around the streets with tons of kids!
To our surprise though, she left her costume on all night and didn't protest once--head piece and all! So now I present to you our little elephant...the cutest one to ever exist!
Papa...why don't you have a costume on?
Here was one of our first houses. What you find out as a parent trying to document this event is that you get a lot of pictures of the back of your child! Still cute! Look at her little tail! :)
We were getting pretty tired by this point...I mean we had been to like 10 houses by now. What little elephant wouldn't be pooped? Good thing we had daddy to carry us!

"Trick or Treat"-- First stop was Papa Randy's. With no other kids in sight, she really had no idea what we were doing!

Apparently, we are also practicing for Easter...unfortunately there was no candy in the bushes though.

Kitty-cat mommy (minus the half-rubbed off nose) and Elephant Kinley had such a great time!!
I cannot believe how big she is getting. We had a blast with our family and made fun memories for Kinely...mommy and daddy also made out with quiet a loot of candy from our little elephant's basket!
And, just for reminiscing sake, here are some pictures of Kinely from her first Halloween last year....
Time goes by so fast....

Whoosh, Whoosh, Whoosh
This week we had our 16 week appointment. It was a great day for many reasons. First, it felt amazing to have reached this far in the pregnancy considering we faced some uphill battles early on. Also, it was the point in the pregnancy when we were first able to hear the baby's heart beat! It was such a great day especially since I had been having some irrational pregnancy worries as of late. That whoosh, whoosh, whoosh signified that everything is just fine though! :)
Now some even more exciting news...in just two weeks we get to find out if Kinley will have a little sister or a little brother! Any guesses? Kevin originally thought boy...probably wishful thinking! However, now he is leaning more towards girl. Me? I'm not really sure. I think maybe boy since this pregnancy has been a little different than Mckinley, but who knows, all pregnancies are really different. Either way we will obviously be happy, but I am dying to know. I'm a planner through and through and I cannot stand not knowing! I think we are coming to a point when things are finally going to start feeling a little more real. I'm showing, starting to feel a little movement (no kicks or punches yet though), and soon we will know the answer to the big question! For now though I am just really happy that both the baby and me are doing well in this pregnancy!
Ok now on a side note and to add a few pictures to the post, we have also been enjoying the fall festivities here in the Hinton home. We went to the pumpkin patch, Kinely painted some pumpkins of her own, and we carved a couple pumpkins too! Here is some picture documentation showcasing the fun!
So proud!
Daddy's is a little scary.
This stuff is really weird!
Final product (not the best night picture but you get the idea)!

NO Mama!
I have spoke before of Mckinley's love for her daddy and then I spoke of how she started to come around to mama. Well these days I think Kinley shares her love for mama and daddy equally for the most part; however, this love does not always extend to a particular part of the day.
Each weekday Kinley waits for her daddy to get home from work. When I see him pull up I tell her to go look out the window. Then it goes like this...she spots daddy, she squeals with delight, she starts yelling and looking back at me--making sure I see him too, she begins to knock on the window to get his attention, he sees her and walks to the window, they exchange waves, she then turns her attention to the door to wait for his entrance, he comes in, she waddles over to him with pure joy on her face, often times she yells out "DADA"!, her arms raise, he picks her up, love at last!!
Well, I also go to Kevin to give him a hug and kiss hello. This is where trouble enters the picture. Kinley HATES for me to love Kevin--especially when he gets home from work. Each and every day after the events described above take place, she is in his arms, I am hugging them both....WHAM! She hits me in the face. Of course we say "no hitting" or "we do not hit mama", but the events always unfold the same way. Except the other day Mckinley said her first sentence to accompany her actions. "NO Mama"!!!!
Apparently I am not allowed to love Kevin---that is her daddy! I think we may have some problems on our hands when this baby arrives. :)

Pumpkin Patch and Torture Rituals
This weekend we joined my brother and his family and went to the pumpkin patch. It was the first time for Kinley (me too actually) and we had a lot of fun even though it was raining like crazy--I guess that just adds a more authentic fall feel huh? This pumpkin patch had so much to do and we did a lot. We ate fresh corn on the cob, looked at baby animals, had hot cocoa and picked the perfect pumpkins. It is so much fun to take Kinley to do new exciting things now that she is starting to really get it, if that even makes any sense. In any event, she had a ton of fun but I think she likes walking around in rain boots the best! Gotta love the little things that make her happy!
The next day we took Mckinley to participate in some torture. We got her ears pierced. I know, I know, how could we?! I feel bad enough that I had someone put holes in her body for the sole purpose of beauty, but we did and it looks really cute! I still feel guilty though. I had been thinking about doing this for a while and thought that we would do it for her first birthday. That day came and went though and I just couldn't bring myself to do it. On Sunday though I woke up and said "let's go do it". We went, we pierced, we cried, we comforted, and we were all better! I tried to be prepared by purchasing both a ring pop and her own Jamba Juice--she wanted nothing to do with the really strange ring pop thing, but she does know what Jamba is and was more than ok to suck that down! :) It was as bad as I thought it was going to be, but she also recouped just like I thought she would. Within minutes of it being done she was doing pretty good. Not sure if I would do it again--probably would because it is SO cute! Horrible mom I know.
PS...for any of those readers out there who speak with my mom, do not say anything to her yet. We are just going to let her see for herself in person and since she is on vacay right now she won't be reading the blog.
